Generator Installation

EXPERENCE MAKES THE DIFFERNECE.

Every generator install is different and has its own set of challenges. Getting in touch with a knowledgeable generator dealer is the best way to ensure the back up generator you purchase is to be sized and installed properly. Furthermore, you have a source for ongoing maintenance and warranty.

FUEL TYPE.

Determining what fuel you should use is determined by several factors:

  • Size of generator
  • Location of the generator in relationship to the gas supply
  • Type of application for which the generator will be used for

GENERATOR SIZING.

Sizing a generator for your application is a very critical step in any generator project.  Size a generator to small creates all kinds of unwanted problems and possibly a huge cost in fixing.  Size a generator to large and you will spend more money than you need to in equipment and the operational cost will be higher.  Furthermore any motor, heating/cooling loads will affect the size of the generator. You may need a generator twice the size of your usage just to get them started.

A few ways we will size your generator is:
  • Size the generator for critical loads only.
  • Use a generator sizing calculator. (This takes into account for starting loads of motors)
  • Get a Peak Demand from your Utility.
  • Size the generator for the whole house or building. This may require a load calculation. Your local generator dealer is your best source to insure you are getting the right generator for your needs.

MEETING NEW CODE CHANGES.

With the new 2008 NEC Code changes any backup generator for any home or business has to have a load calculation done or be sized for the service it is backing up.  As a generator dealer, we have the ability to size the generator to pass the final electrical inspection that is required by law when installing an emergency backup system. If the generator is not sized properly your electrical inspector will not pass your inspection. That will turn into a lot more money fixing the problem.

LOCATION, LOCATION, LOCATION!

Once a generator size is determined the next step is placement of the generator. Every location is different and knowing what it takes to install a generator helps us in finding the best location for the unit. The big factors we take into account are where we have to run the electrical wire and where we have to get our gas supply from to allow the generator to run or allowing for fueling of a diesel tank. Other factors we take into account are aesthetics, fresh air intakes of the property, noise the unit produces.

Proper Gas sizing is Critical! The biggest problem with inexperienced generator installations or home owner installations is improper gassing of the unit. Unlike a furnace or a hot water heater, if you do not have the right pressure or volume a generator will not perform properly or it may not even startup.

We will determine what it will take to properly gas your generator so we know it will work in any condition.
