Generator Service - Load Banking
Industry trade organizations and manufacturers both agree that a well planned preventive maintenance program is vital to the reliable operation of a standby generator. Load Banks are an essential part of such a program. Load Banks provide a practical means to test the system without interruption to the critical loads.
We recommend load banking all propane, natural gas, and diesel generators.
Allied Generators offers load banks from 1Kw up to 1500 kW from 1/2 hour to 8 hours.

The primary cause of diesel engine failure is "wet-stacking" ("wet" unburned fuel accumulating in the engine "stack"). It is caused by under-loading of the generator. Diesel engines that are lightly loaded, or allowed to idle for long periods, never reach their recommended operating temperature. Over time, unburned fuel coats the combustion chamber, reducing engine rating, efficiency, and life span. A preventive maintenance plan that includes load testing of a diesel generator set, will reduce the harmful effects of "wet-stacking" and increase engine life.
5 top reasons why load banking is recommended:
You may not think about it until it's too late, but regular load bank testing goes a long way. Here are the top reasons you should safeguard your system with load bank testing.
1. By actually drawing power from the generator load banking tests your system's capability without interrupting standard utility service to your house or business.
2. This test is the only sure way to tell if your system is capable of handling the required loads.
3. This test is the only sure way to tell if your cooling and air is capable of handling the load that is required.
4. This test expels the moisture and cleans carbon residue and deposits, out of the exhaust system.
5. This test exercises your generator. Standard exercising, or starting the unit and running the engine with no load transfer, exercise only the engine. Load banking is the only true way to exercise the entire generator.
